Uh, I’m sorry, TNT marketing department… but what? I get the reference to the badly handled “dream season” from the original Dallas, but who thought this poster was a good idea? It looks like Josh Henderson’s abs have been painted on. I also love that Larry Hagman is wearing his cowboy hat in the shower…

My Top 10 Most Anticipated Hunger Games Moments

The Hunger Games comes out tomorrow! I’ve just re-read the book (for about the 5th time) and I thought since I have three hours to kill before my next class I might make a list of the top ten moments I’m most looking forward to. So here they are, in no particular order.
Oh, spoilers. Obviously.
- Katniss reacting to Peeta’s confession of love during his interview with Caesar Flickerman.
- In the book, after they get back from the interviews, Katniss pushes Peeta and causes him to cut his hands on some glass.
- This isn’t really a “moment”, but I’m really looking forward to seeing Woody Harrelson as Haymitch. Haymitch’s story is heartbreaking and I hope his character is portrayed with the dual humor and sensitivity it is in the books.
- Peeta’s monologue on the roof.
- “If I’m gonna die, I wanna still be me.”
- When Katniss first discovers that Peeta is working with the Careers.
- I’m really looking forward to seeing how Josh Hutcherson (an actor I’ve followed since his career began) plays the ambiguity of Peeta in his interactions with Cato, Clove, Glimmer, Marvel, etc. In the first half of the book Peeta is thoroughly established as a kind, genuine person. He makes it clear that he doesn’t want the Games to change him and then promptly becomes part of the Career pack - in the book this is seen solely through the eyes of Katniss.
- Katniss dropping the tracker-jacker nest on the Careers.
- I mostly just want to see how gory this is. And if they can effectively pull off CGI bees.
- Rue’s death.
- Again, I want to see how gory this is. In the book Katniss shoots Rue’s attacker (Marvel, played by Jack Quaid) in the neck with an arrow. He then pulls it out and drowns in his own blood.
- This is a pivotal scene in the series. I hope it’s handled correctly. I expect to cry.
- The cave scenes.
- This should be obvious. My love for the Katniss/Peeta pairing is ridiculous. I hope Jennifer and Josh’s chemistry plays out well.
- When Cato holds Clove in his arms as she dies.
- This is the first time in the novel that Cato becomes relatable, childlike even. Even the most vicious and aggressive player in the Games still feels pain, is capable of empathy. I’m really looking forward to Alexander Ludwig’s take on Cato as a whole.
- Cato’s death scene.
- I’m just curious as to how far they take this. I want to see how they tackle this scene in terms of the blood (because it’s PG-13, after all) and then in terms of the actual muttations themselves.
- When Peeta realizes that Katniss was playing up her feelings for him to get supplies from the sponsors.
Happy Hunger Games! And may the odds be ever in your favor!
